What is Baptism in the Holy Spirit?
What does it mean to be baptized in the Holy Spirit?
John 14: 16-17
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.”
As baptism in water is an “outward sign of an inward change”, baptism in the Holy Spirit is an “inward igniting of an outward faith”!
Baptism means immersion, and when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we are immersed in the fire and power source of the Creator of the universe! God’s power… the same power that created the heavens and the earth… the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the grave, ignites within us and our natural lives become SUPERnatural. The ordinary of our lives becomes EXTRAordinary when the Holy Spirit is working within us.

Acts 4: 8-10
“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, 9 are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.”
In the Gospels, we see that the apostle Peter denies Jesus three times out of fear (in three of the Gospels, Matthew, Luke, and John)! This is Peter PRIOR to the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Following his baptism in Acts 2, Peter receives a BOLDNESS from God, where he preaches to a crowd and sees 3,000 saved! Later in Acts 4, Peter addressed many of the same leaders whom he denied Jesus in the Gospels!

#2 Holy Spirit baptism unlocks spiritual gifts!
1 Corinthians 12: 4-7
“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.”
We are all designed ON purpose FOR a purpose, and when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, gifts within us are unlocked and released to make a difference around the world!
Gifts include wisdom, special knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, languages, and more! (See 1 Corinthians 12). The Holy Spirit is the One who distributes these gifts!

Who can receive baptism in the Holy Spirit?
Anyone and everyone who has been born again! (See our article on Salvation). Baptism in the Holy Spirit is both a DECISION and an INVITATION. What we know is that before the first baptism, the followers of Jesus were gathered in the upper room, praying and seeking the Spirit like Jesus told them to (Acts 2).
We too must decide that we want the Holy Spirit’s baptism. We must be ready and prepare ourselves to receive the Holy Spirit. Once we have decided, we then must invite the Holy Spirit to baptize us in His fire. It is as simple as asking; the Holy Spirit is the one who does the work!
