Crossover - SERVE

THE BIG IDEA

Faithfulness = Service

THE BIBLE

Matthew 25: 14-30

SUMMARY:

Ultimately our gifts are given that we should use them for God’s glory. And God is never more glorified then when we are telling people about Jesus.

The wicked servant is the one who has a gift, but he just shows up. Sure he is there at church, but he is doing nothing to multiple.

The faithful servants are the ones who are serving and seeking to bring others to Christ.

TALKING POINTS:

Matthew 20:28
28 For even the Son of Man (Jesus) came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  1. Since Jesus is God, doesn’t it make sense that we should serve Him?
  2. Why then did He say that He didn’t come to be served, but to serve us?
  3. What does this say about Jesus’s character?
  4. How does this challenge our character?

Philippians 2:3-7
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.

  1. What does it mean to be humble? “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of your self less”.
  2. What does it look like to be looking out for other’s interests? In what ways could you do that this week?
  3. What “attitude” did Jesus have?
  4. We talk all the time about “our rights”. What is a “right”?
  5. Jesus gave up His rights to serve us. What does that tell us?

Matthew 20:25-27
25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.
26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,

27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.

  1. Jesus’s idea of a true leader is actually someone who serves others first. How is that different then we normally think of a “leader”?
  2. Who can you serve this week?
