Wednesday Men’s Thought

I woke up the other day thinking why sheep and not goats…

I decided to research the differences…I found that only the Shepherd can easily distinguish the difference between them.

Sheep and goats are almost identical…

Lets read Matthew 25:31-45
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

Why does God take the sheep to His right side…

What’s different in these scriptures about sheep and goats…

In life goats are way smarter than sheep….

Goats are more curious and independent…they explore more and are always looking for something better.

Goats have incredible agility that allows them to get to better positions…they are always nibbling on and eating things…

Goats have beards…

A goat will not follow anyone…a herd of goats will go wherever it wants

Sheep are sheepish

Sheep are grazers and sit and chew on things…they ramble slowly eating plants down to the ground…

Sheep have rectangular pupils allowing them to see all around them
Sheep instinctively flock together and feel safe when with their shepherd and become agitated when they aren’t together

Sheep look to their shepherd for their needs…

So why sheep and not goats…

In Matthew 24 the disciples asked Jesus to tell them about the second coming….

Jesus after describing the difficulties of the last days telling stories about His return…Jesus calls us to choose what we will do with His teaching…

We can recognize Him as Lord now or in the day of His coming…

We should make our choice now because in the day of His coming the time for choosing will be over

The day of His coming tilts the scale from our choice to His final judgment

In these final words about His second coming Jesus says plainly that He will separate the sheep from the goats…In that day our opinions about ourselves will not matter…

Only His opinion will matter…in the second coming only Jesus choice will matter

Our choice matters now
  • How important is the choice set before us?

It is so important that at the second coming all the nations…all the nations in heaven will be assembled to witness the results…

It is so important that God Himself prepared the kingdom “before the formations of the world”

These words set before us are divinely inspired to give us the most important choice we will ever make…

Will we be sheep or goats in God's eyes?
